Is Graphic Design Hard?

Source: Tourboxtech.com

It was interesting for me when my daughter who is a college student majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in Creative Writing said that Graphic Design was hard. One of her friends at her college also had the same opinion with her. They do not have plenty of free time to do their class project but have to meet the deadline. They also must be creative, learning and practicing the new skills by using the updated software and applications. For an example: for their Graphic Design II class, they are assigned to finish a special Graphic Design project by choosing a theme and created one hundred of different designs including in photography area. Then they need to transform them into a small product: print design. This project will end by giving a presentation in front of the class for all one hundred designs and a print product. When I'm writing this post, she has already finished seventy five percent. While still working on this project, she still has continuing other assignments in this class. She is now having a real client to make a logo and icon as her recent class assignment. She is so excited.

After collecting the information from her and online resources, I would like to share it here.

Why is Graphic Design (GD) hard?

1. There are seven areas for GD that every graphic designer need to learn: web design, UI and interactive design, advertising and marketing design, motion graphics and animation, packaging design, game design, publication and typographic design, and illustration.

2. Because of those skills above, Graphic Designers need to constantly be practicing and improving their design skills, which takes time and effort. They will need to stay up-to-date with design trends and technologies. While all of this can be learned, it will require hard work and passion for the craft.

3. The hardest parts are juggling subjective criticism, finding inspiration, changing trends, and constant deadlines. Other good things are graphic design is an exciting and stimulating creative field.
