A Nice Statement from a Reader in Malaysia

Authors like appreciations from their readers. It will give them more enthusiastic and energy to be more creative to write. Appreciation can be a comment, a review, or an input. It can be formal or non formal.

Three days ago I got a nice comment/statement from a reader in Malaysia. She wrote it on facebook along with this picture. She made me smile. Thank you, Viviana.

NEW YEAR, NEW BOOK!
What a better way to celebrate a new year by reading a new book! I am honored to give a book review for my long-time friend, Fida Abbott. We have been virtual friends since 2010, knowing her from her blog, I guess our friendship lasts long because we share similarities of being an immigrant, a housewife, love Internet and writing and value personal growth. Amid our busy life with family and work, we pursue our passion.
I was never a fan of fiction books. I prefer reading non-fiction books related to my work to gain information or knowledge. Fida encouraged me to read her short-stories. Her stories are sweet, amusing and juicy. Therefore I placed small mandarin oranges along with her book. Every short story is like a small orange which is sweet, fragrant, juicy and easy to digest. I enjoy reading her short stories like savoring fresh fruits.
What I learnt from reading her book:
- the message is memorable when it's conveyed in a story. There's wisdom in every short story.
- everyone is possible to create their own stories from everyday life events and observation and it doesn't have to be your story. It's amazing to see that Fida used the 3rd person to craft the stories.
- Tips, step-by-step guide and resources for those who aspire to write stories for fun or profits.
- Reading stories is good for right brain as they evoke sensation and emotion.

EXPLORING MY IDEAS: 5 Stars Review from Readers' Favorite

Reviewed by Jack Magnus from Readers’ Favorite
Exploring My Ideas: Ten Short Stories Followed by the Author's Shared Ideas with a Simple and Practical Guide How to Explore and Compose Ideas into Short Stories is a collection of short stories and an educational guide for writers by Fida Abbott. Abbott is an author and writing instructor, who was born and grew up in Indonesia. She sees her stories as a way to express and share her experiences, feelings and thoughts, and she shows aspiring writers how they can do likewise with their own stories. While the conventional wisdom is to write what you know, Abbott demonstrates how writers can use written material and their imaginations to make other realities vivid enough to base a story on. She concludes each of her short stories with a section that gives “the story behind the short story.”

Fida Abbott’s short story collection and writer’s guide, Exploring My Ideas, is a well-written and thought-provoking book that analyzes and breaks down the writing process for new writers. Abbott’s voice is conversational and informative, and reading her book felt a lot like having her directly interacting with me as I read. I loved the supernatural aspect of The Rent House which was inspired by her own experiences with a haunted house. In Makeup Makeover, the reader is immersed in the world of a preteen whose first experiment with makeup transforms her into Elsa, the Snow Queen from Frozen. Abbott also includes a worksheet for creating and categorizing your story ideas and a chapter entitled Ten Guides to Plot a Short Story that analyzes in detail a short story from her collection. Exploring My Ideas is highly recommended.(*)
