The Corrs: Toss the Feathers

Hi Guys, Thanksgiving is over and now we are preparing for the next big holiday of the year, Christmas. I'm glad my progress has been done as I expected and tomorrow, on Monday (November 30, 2009), I will start another new project, writing the second book of Amerindo Kitchen in series. My goal for this book will be done before Christmas, then I will prepare for the next second class for the online writing course that will be started in January 11th, 2010 for fifteen weeks. During that periode, I will prepare to write a book in Indonesian that will be used for a special class in 2011 online writing course (PMOH), and the rest of 2010 year, I will enjoy my first upcoming publsihed novel and prepare for the second novel. It will be very busy for me but this is a great challange in my upcoming special year, 2010.

In the next post I will attach some Thanksgiving pictures and videos, and now I would like to share a video of my favorite band, The Corrs. They are not only three beautiful women, but they are very talented. I always adore the people who are very talented in music, singing, writing, broadcasting, crafting, gardening, designing, cooking and landscaping. Those fields are my interests.

Enjoy 'Toss the Feathers' and let me know what you think.

Making Your Own Spuds McTurkey

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

How will your Thanksgiving be? Tomorrow we will go to New Jersey. My husband's brother and family invited us for Thanksgiving dinner. There will be many other of his families come. The children are so excited.

They would be more excited if I have time to make their Thanksgiving more fun. I found this creative and cute recipe. I am not sure I will make it for them. Tomorrow will be very busy day as I will make a dessert for Thanksgiving dinner before we left in the afternoon. If you're interested to try, I enclose its recipe below. Have fun!

These fake gobblers, whose mix-and-match features pay homage to the esteemed Mr. Potato Head, have a fine threefold effect. They busy little hands, make guests laugh, and also work together to form an endearing and zany centerpiece. Just give the kids a sack of potatoes and a plate of sliced veggies, and they'll be talking turkey in no time.

Ingredients:
- Large brown potatoes
- Toothpicks
- Assorted fresh and dried fruits, nuts, vegetables, and mini pretzel sticks and twists, for decorating
- Peanut butter
- Googly eyes (optional)

FAVORITE TRIMMINGS

Tail feathers: carrots, bell peppers, and summer squash cut into long strips
Wings: wedges of red onion, apple, or orange or lemon peel
Eyes: raisins, dried cranberries, or googly eyes
Wattle: wedge of red pepper or radish, or a dried cranberry
Beak: cashew or almond, pistachio shells, or the tip of a lemon
Feet: carrot slivers or pretzels

Instructions:

- To stand each potato upright, create a tripod by pushing three toothpicks into the bottom, leaving 1/2 inch protruding (later, you can attach feet over the toothpicks to conceal them).

- Designate the top of the potato as the head, or attach a separate, smaller potato head with toothpicks.

- Put out an assortment of fresh and dried fruits, nuts, vegetables, and pretzels. Let each child use toothpicks to attach soft items to the potato body. Attach hard items, like nuts and pretzels, with peanut butter. To add pistachio shells, cut small, curved slits into the potato and push them in. Stick on googly eyes with peanut butter.

The Reviewers:

1. Cathy Mc Kittrick (MO)

Through the publishing of this book, Fida Abbott has shared her approach to American cooking through the eyes of someone fairly new to the United States. She brings forth fresh culinary ideas combined with personal tidbits that endear you to her and this ambitious effort.

2. Maria Coleman (TX)

A first look at this recipe book was a bit daunting. Maroon-brown hard cover with that crispy-but-juicy look of the turkey and all the trimmings will surely bring up your appetite. "Fabulous Leftover Turkey", really??

With so many turkey recipes out there what makes this one stand out? First, it's the creativity of the author, Fida Abbott, who smartly combine two great cultures: Indonesia, where she from, and America, where her husband from, into these recipes. The result? Ten great dishes that are easy to prepare. Second, not like others, the author also shares her story of how she came up with recipe ideas and it's background. This makes cooking more enjoyable. Third, pictures are nice. Even though they could be more attractive if they were more focussed and clearer. I personally like the setting and layout, even though in some pages margins are uneven. But it doesn't hurt much. Four, this book is for everyone. I'm vegetarian, but that doesn't mean I cannot use this recipe book. It gives me confidence to play around with non-meat ingredients.

That's what's fabulous! I definitely will recommend it to you. Can't wait for another series, Fida!

(This review can be read at Amazon.com)

3. Baikbear (PA)

Two words I can describe about this cookbook; attractive and creative. I enjoy the stories the author wrote. Photographs are great.

I hope she will publish the second book soon and keep supporting the others who are in need.

Boots for Winter

Winter is identical with cold. I prefer to be warm than cold. To make my body keep warm during the winter season, I should prepare the proper clothes, jackets and shoes/ boots that are suitable for winter.

Talking about boots, I have two kinds of boots. One is special for walking or playing on the snow and another one is very casual for regular activities but I never used this before as I bought it in the end of the season last year.

Although I have had two boots already, I exactly wish someday I will have a very good and quality one. How do I know if boots that I am looking for are the ones I really want? Here, I found the best source that I would like to share with you.

UGG boots has many kinds of fashionable and cute boots for women and kids (girls). With the high quality 100% pure wool from Australia, ugg boots have attracted many fashion people, and this is what I am looking for. They are soft and comfortable with classic and elegant style, including UGG classic tall boots and UGG Classic Short boots, could bear the test of time. As for the material, the leather material, not japanned leather, is more suitable for this season and for the fashionable girls as you should know PVC is not a better choice than leather.

When I checked all the products, they are having ugg boots sale right now. All their products are on sale which is good for you to consider to look their choices. Who knows, you will find one, so hurry up, take a look soon!

More than that as the valuable customers, you deserve special services; you can track your order with 100% secure ordering, hacker safe protection, they value your privacy, quick shipping and great customer service that is availabe for live chat as help center service. It is cool, isn't it?

With those information I have read, I am sure UGG is the best choice for you to be warm and fashionable in this cold season. I would be very happy if someone would give a pair of UGG boots as my Christmas present. Who knows? Maybe St. Claus will hear my wish. I hope my wish comes true.

Turning Hurt Into Hope

Yesterday I received a book, titled 'Turning Hurt into Hope' from Nancy Dinar (pastor and christian counselor) from Indonesia who lives in South Korea as the Author if this book. It is the 4th book I got from my Cyber Friends from around the world I never met in person, after two books from Robert TS Nio from Netherlands, titled 'The Mang Ucup Code' and 'Gereja Duit vs Gereja Allah' (Money Church vs God Chuch) that I received in December 2006 and a book from Jennie S. Bev. from California (USA), titled 'Mindet Success: Menuju Kebebasan Finansial' that I received in June 2007. Either books from Robert and Jennie were as the gifts, which I had won in their contests.

In February 2009, Nancy ever asked me to review her manuscript and I accepted it gratefully as she gave a trust in me in reviewing it. Two months ago, in September 2009 it has been published by Metanoia in Jakarta (Indonesia). I was happy for her as I ever thought her book will give great blessing to every reader.

Honestly, when I read it and wrote a review, I was impressed about her own true story in her family life, especially about her dad who was healed from cancer miraclely and how God took his life through His plan when at the time she was writing this book to dedicate it to him.

Reading her book will give you the strength in facing the difficult life because there is always a hope behind everything happened in the life as long as we believe He will make His Way to every person who has given a trust in Him.

In her book, you will also find FIVE reasons why the people loose their hopes, SIX goals behind distresses, SEVEN big things God heals, and EIGHT attitudes to have a bright future.

If you're an Indonesian and interested to purchase her book online or offline, you should visit Metanoia site to find out more how you could get this book.

My special message for Nancy, I would like to thank for her effort in sending her book. It will be one of my special books collection that came from my cyber friends. Congratulations, Nancy and may God bless you and your family in serving God's mission. Amen.

A Note from the School Nurse

Yesterday I got a monthly newspaper from my daughter school. One of the information I gave attention most was the note from the school nurse. I thought it would be useful if I would like to share it here.

VIRUSES

Swine Flu is the main virus that we are hearing about in the news media, but there are many viruses circulating around this time of year that can make us sick. Since many people are getting sick this time of the year with colds, sinus problems, step throut, or maybe a 'stomach bug', how do you know when you should visit the doctor and when you should just wait it out?

See your doctor right away if your child has fast and trouble breathing, bluish or gray skin, vomiting that doesn't stop, is not drinking enough, is not waking up, does not respond and does not want to be held.

Check with your doctor right away if you have trouble breathing, chest pain or pressure, dizziness, trouble thinking, vomiting that doesn't stop, flu that starts to get better but then your fever comes back or cough gets worse.

Always make sure that your child is getting plenty of fluids to avoid getting dehydrated. You can also boost your child's natural immunity with foods rich in vitamin C. Tablets of vitamin C are also very effective but make sure they also contain zinc to improve absorption. And remember germs enter the body through the nostrils and mouth/ throat so encourage our child to keep their hands off their face. It's a very effective method of germ control.
